Key Milestone Achieved in Vaccination Rollout

First round of vaccinations is completed ahead of schedule in all long-term care homes in seven regions with the highest COVID-19

Today marks a key milestone in the fight against COVID-19, with Ontario completing the first round of vaccinations in all long-term care homes in seven regions ahead of schedule.

“This is the first of many victories to come against this deadly and ruthless enemy we face,” said Doug Ford, MPP for Etobicoke North and Premier of Ontario “We are making steady progress, but we will not rest until the residents and staff of every long-term care home and all Ontarians have had the opportunity to get a vaccine. Only then will we be able to get our lives back and return to normal.”

To date, residents, staff, and essential caregivers in more than 40 per cent of all long-term care homes across the province have had an opportunity to receive their first dose.

The four regions of highest community spread; Peel, Toronto, Windsor-Essex, and York have been visited with first doses available to residents, staff, and essential caregivers. Ottawa, Durham, and Simcoe-Muskoka have also completed their initial dose to all their long-term care homes. Progress continues to be made across the province with the goal of reaching all long-term care homes by February 15.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ontario has invested $1.38 billion to ensure that long-term care homes have the resources they need to battle this virus. Our PC government has also taken action to address urgent staffing shortages, including issuing management orders, enabling the deployment of hospital staff and the use of infection prevention and control teams.
