As part of our plan to protect Ontario, the Ontario PC government is investing $22 million to help municipalities and emergency response centres transition to Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1)—a modern, digital emergency communications system that will improve how Ontarians access help when they need it most.
This investment is part of a larger $208 million plan to upgrade emergency infrastructure, including call handling systems, telephone networks, and cybersecurity and internal network infrastructure.
Once fully in place, NG9-1-1 will allow:
- Texting 9-1-1 when voice calls aren’t possible
- Sending real-time video from emergency scenes
- Improved GPS tracking to accurately locate callers
These modernized capabilities will lead to safer, faster, and more informed emergency responses across Ontario.
