Ontario PCs Investing $55.8 Million to Strengthen Ontario’s Teaching Workforce

To ensure Ontario has the teachers it needs—particularly in underserved and remote communities—the Ontario PC government is investing $55.8 million to expand teacher training programs across the province. This funding will support up to 2,600 new teachers by 2027, reinforcing the pipeline of English and French-language educators for Ontario classrooms.

Thirteen publicly funded universities offering Bachelor of Education programs will receive funding to expand seats and upgrade programs—especially those offering accelerated training, French-language and technological education, and programs in rural, northern, Indigenous, and remote communities.

Currently, more than 12,000 full-time students are enrolled in teacher education programs at Ontario universities. The government supports approximately 4,500 new teacher candidates each year through the Initial Teacher Education program, with $60 million in annual funding.

This latest investment is part of a strategic commitment to grow our skilled workforce, create opportunity, and deliver real results for families across the province.
