Protecting Workers, Building Ontario: PCs Invest $260 Million in Skills Training

As part of our plan to build a stronger Ontario and protect jobs in the face of global uncertainty, the Ontario PC government is investing $260 million through the sixth round of the Skills Development Fund (SDF). This brings our total investment to $2.5 billion — a bold commitment to giving workers the tools they need to succeed today and thrive tomorrow.

Under the leadership of Premier Doug Ford, we’re continuing to deliver results by supporting jobseekers, apprentices, and workers in high-demand industries like health care, construction, manufacturing, and the skilled trades. We’re training the next generation of workers and helping employers find the talent they need to keep building Ontario.

Training that works:
Through this latest round, organizations across the province can apply for funding to deliver hands-on, results-driven training that leads directly to better jobs and bigger paycheques.

Key Round 5 projects now underway:

  • Support Ontario Youth: $3.75M to train 1,325 people in 15 skilled trades
  • CME: $1.4M to support women, youth and newcomers in manufacturing
  • Unite Here Local 75: $5.5M to train 1,440 hospitality workers
  • Ontario Electrical League: $3M to address labour shortages in the electrical sector
  • Youth Employment Services (YES): $1.1M to equip youth with cyber and AI skills

Since 2021, over 1,000 SDF projects have helped more than 700,000 workers train for better jobs — and that number keeps growing.

In the face of U.S. tariffs and global economic challenges, our PC government is standing strong with Ontario’s workers. We’re protecting jobs, supporting families, and strengthening our economy — because when Ontario’s workers succeed, Ontario succeeds.
