Ontario PCs are Building the Future with the Yonge North Subway Extension

This week, Premier Doug Ford announced a major milestone: the contract to design and build the twin tunnels for the Yonge North Subway Extension has been awarded. This critical project will extend subway service from Toronto into York Region, bringing faster, more convenient transit to Vaughan, Markham, and Richmond Hill for the first time ever.

With over 90,000 daily riders expected, this new extension will:

  • Put 26,000 more people within walking distance of public transit,
  • Cut commute times by up to 22 minutes from Markham to downtown Toronto, and
  • Support 4,300 jobs every year during construction.

While U.S. tariffs threaten Ontario’s economy, our government is taking action; investing in infrastructure that keeps workers on the job, reduces gridlock, and supports long-term economic growth.

This is part of our bold $70 billion transit plan, the largest transit investment in North America, that includes:
✅ The Ontario Line
✅ Scarborough Subway Extension
✅ Eglinton Crosstown West Extension
✅ Yonge North Subway Extension
