Ontario’s PC government is delivering on our plan to protect Ontario by building the largest transit expansion in Canadian history, cutting commute times, creating thousands of good-paying jobs, and keeping our province’s economy strong.
Last week, we broke ground on the second tunnel launch shaft for the Ontario Line, located near the future Gerrard Station in Toronto’s east end. From here, tunnel boring machines will dig three kilometres of twin tunnels under Pape Avenue, marking another major milestone in this historic project.
The Ontario Line will deliver brand-new rapid transit to Riverdale and surrounding communities for the first time, with Gerrard Station alone putting nearly 12,000 people within walking distance of transit. Once complete, the 15.6-kilometre line will connect Exhibition Place to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT in just 30 minutes, less than half the time it takes today.
The Ontario Line will also reduce crowding on the TTC’s busiest stretch by up to 15 per cent and provide more than 40 connections to TTC subways, buses, streetcars and regional rail. That means a faster, easier commute for hundreds of thousands of people every day.
Our nearly $70 billion transit investment, the largest in North America, is supporting 4,700 jobs annually during construction of the Ontario Line alone. Despite U.S. tariffs and global economic uncertainty, our government is protecting Ontario’s economy by building critical infrastructure that will drive growth and competitiveness for decades to come.
