Ontario PCs are Building Ontario’s Workforce to Deliver Homes, Highways, and Hospitals

The Ontario PC government is investing $75 million to train up to 7,800 more students for in-demand jobs in construction and urban planning, ensuring our province has the homegrown talent needed to deliver the housing and infrastructure families rely on.

From welding and carpentry to urban and land use planning, this investment will prepare the next generation of workers to build Ontario’s future; whether it’s new homes, expanded highways, modern hospitals, or community infrastructure.

While U.S. tariffs create economic uncertainty, our government is taking bold action to protect Ontario. By expanding training opportunities in the skilled trades and planning programs, we’re making sure Ontario workers can land good-paying jobs with bigger paycheques while supporting our ambitious $200 billion infrastructure plan.

Training the Builders of Tomorrow

  • 7,500 new seats at colleges and Indigenous Institutes for construction programs like welding, carpentry, and renovation techniques.
  • 300 new graduate seats at universities for urban and land use planning programs by 2028.
  • Training offered at leading Ontario institutions including Durham College, Humber Polytechnic, Conestoga College, Fanshawe College, Queen’s University, University of Waterloo, York University, and more.

This investment builds on Ontario’s record of supporting workers through the Skills Development Fund, which has already helped train more than one million people in sectors like construction, manufacturing, and health care.

Together, we’re protecting jobs, strengthening our workforce, and delivering the infrastructure our growing province needs.
