Ontario’s PC government is continuing to strengthen health care in Hamilton by breaking ground on a major expansion of the emergency department at Hamilton General Hospital.
Backed by a $25 million provincial investment, the project will add 8,500 square feet of new emergency department space, helping the hospital care for more than 50,000 patients each year while reducing wait times and improving access to emergency care for families across the region.
The new emergency department will include additional treatment rooms, an expanded ambulance off-loading area, upgraded resuscitation facilities, a new triage and rapid assessment area, improved patient flow and enhanced infection prevention measures. Construction is expected to be completed by 2030.
The project is part of the Ontario PC government’s historic plan to invest $64 billion in more than 50 major hospital projects across the province over the next decade, ensuring people can access high-quality care closer to home.
Since 2018, Ontario’s PC government has been making record investments to strengthen the province’s health-care system by expanding hospitals, connecting more people with primary care and building the modern health infrastructure needed to serve growing communities.
While previous governments failed to keep pace with Ontario’s growth, our government is getting shovels in the ground, expanding hospital capacity and delivering the health-care system that families deserve.
