Doug Ford’s Ontario PC team is delivering on its commitment to get people moving by reaching another major milestone on the Yonge North Subway Extension.
Construction crews have officially completed excavation of the tunnel launch shaft, clearing the way for tunnel boring machines to begin digging twin tunnels that will extend TTC Line 1 nearly eight kilometres north into Markham and Richmond Hill.
This transformative project will bring subway service to York Region for the first time, helping relieve gridlock, connect people to jobs and housing, and move more than 94,000 riders every day.

The Yonge North Subway Extension will create approximately 4,300 good-paying jobs every year during construction, generate more than $3.6 billion in economic benefits and add five new stations at Steeles, Clark, Royal Orchard, Bridge and High Tech.
This project is part of our government’s historic $70 billion investment in public transit, including the Ontario Line, Scarborough Subway Extension, Eglinton Crosstown West Extension and Yonge North Subway Extension — the largest subway expansion in Canadian history.
