Ontario PCs are getting shovels in the ground on the expansion of Highway 3 in St. Thomas, another major milestone in Doug Ford’s plan to Protect Ontario by building the infrastructure needed to support good-paying jobs, strengthen the economy and keep communities moving safely.
Construction is now underway to twin nearly seven kilometres of Highway 3 between Centennial Avenue and Ron McNeil Line, creating a critical transportation link to Volkswagen’s new PowerCo electric vehicle battery gigafactory. The expansion will improve road safety, strengthen access to the St. Thomas Industrial Park and help connect workers to thousands of good-paying jobs.
Once completed alongside the future Talbotville Bypass, the project will create a direct connection between Highway 401 and St. Thomas, supporting continued residential, commercial and industrial growth across Elgin County while reducing commute times for workers and businesses.
Volkswagen’s $7 billion investment is already creating good-paying jobs and driving economic growth in southwestern Ontario. Once complete, the facility will bring thousands of additional highly skilled jobs to the region, strengthen Ontario’s automotive supply chain and reinforce the province’s position as a world leader in the automotive sector.
While others talked, Ontario PCs are getting it done by making the investments needed to support job-creating projects, build critical infrastructure and protect Ontario’s economy for generations to come.
