Ontario PCs are taking the next step to secure affordable, reliable energy by advancing plans for new electricity generation at the former Nanticoke Generating Station site in Haldimand County.
As part of our plan to Protect Ontario and build a stronger, self-reliant economy, Haldimand County will receive $500,000 in growth readiness funding from Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to explore new energy generation opportunities, including small modular reactors (SMRs), at the 900-acre Nanticoke site.
As Ontario continues to grow, so does the need for reliable electricity. With demand expected to increase by as much as 90 per cent by 2050, our government is planning ahead by investing in the energy infrastructure needed to power new homes, support advanced manufacturing, attract investment and create good-paying jobs.
The Nanticoke site is uniquely positioned for the future, with existing zoning for up to 3,000 megawatts of electricity generation, major transmission infrastructure, rail access, port facilities and industrial land in one of Ontario’s fastest-growing regions.
Unlike the previous Liberal government, which shut down Nanticoke and the jobs that came with it, Doug Ford’s Ontario PC team is working to bring new life to the site by creating opportunities for workers, attracting investment and strengthening Ontario’s long-term energy security.
By investing in projects like Nanticoke, Ontario PCs are ensuring our province has the affordable, reliable and clean energy needed to power new homes, attract investment, create good-paying jobs and protect Ontario for generations to come.
