Recognizing the Skills and Abilities of Our Veterans

New Sporting Event will support Canada’s veterans, showcase our national pride, and promote local tourism

Ontario is proud to support our service members and veterans. Canadian service members and veterans face significant challenges when returning from deployment or transitioning back to civilian life. Their recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration into community life can be greatly enhanced through the transformative power of sport.

That’s why our PC government is investing $3 million to support the Valour Games – a new, national multi-sport competition for wounded, ill and injured Canadian military personnel and veterans.

“We owe our veterans and active service members a debt of gratitude for their service to our country,” said Doug Ford, MPP for Etobicoke North and Premier of Ontario. “The Valour Games will provide another important opportunity for Ontarians to recognize the skills and excellence of our men and women in uniform and unite our province and country at a time when it’s needed most.”

Ottawa will host the inaugural Valour Games in 2022, welcoming 500 competitors from across Canada to compete in 10+ adaptive sports over one week. The games will be hosted in different cities every two years thereafter.

The Valour Games builds on the success of the Invictus Games Toronto 2017 and will showcase the athletic accomplishments of wounded veterans while increasing public awareness of the service and sacrifice of our military heroes.

COVID-19 has devastated the sport and tourism sectors in Ontario and across the world. We have a responsibility to ensure that these world-class events have the tools and support they need to come back stronger than ever, when it is safe to do so.  The Valour Games will be an opportunity to showcase our pride, promote safe, local tourism and increase participation in adaptive sports.
