Giving Workers and Job Seekers Pathways to Good Jobs

As our economy reopens, people across Ontario need help finding jobs, improving their skills or starting a new career, and there will be a strong demand for workers in the skilled trades, including electricians and welders, as our province continues down the path to recovery.

To that end, our PC government is investing $37 million to help more than 15,000 people upgrade their skills and train for new jobs. Students, job seekers, apprentices, mid-career workers, newcomers, Indigenous people, and youth will all benefit from the training provided through 86 projects in communities across the province. The programs include internships and other hands-on learning experiences, and in most cases, the training is provided at no charge.

“Jobs change lives. Whether you’re a student, a graduate or a mid-career worker, we want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to upgrade their skills, gain practical hands-on experience and find a good job,” said Monte McNaughton, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex and Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development. “Today’s announcement is an important step forward and a real opportunity to set people down the path to new in-demand careers.”

This investment will ensure we have the right people rebuilding our province and contributing to our long-term success.

The province is working to finalize agreements with training providers. The full list of successful recipients will be available on September 25, 2020.
