Del Duca-Wynne Liberals Will Reinstate Licence Plate Sticker Fees

TORONTO, May 31, 2022 – The Del Duca-Wynne Liberals have always opposed to Doug Ford and the Ontario PC team’s decision keep costs down by removing licence plate sticker fees and giving money back to drivers.

They couldn’t even bring themselves to vote for it. Now, it’s clear they will reverse our cost saving policy.

At a candidates debate on May 24th, the Del Duca-Wynne Liberal candidate in Durham, Granville Anderson, said regarding the licence plate sticker fees, “most people I speak to had no problem paying $120 a year” and “I don’t think it’s really good public policy in doing that.”

While the Del Duca-Wynne Liberals don’t think $120 is a lot of money for Ontario families, Doug Ford and the PC team think it is. Granville Anderson’s statement makes it clear that if elected, the Del Duca-Wynne Liberals will look to reinstate licence plate sticker fees, increasing costs for drivers.

This should come as no surprise. Steven Del Duca was Transportation Minister in Kathleen Wynne’s Government when fees for driver’s licences and licence plate stickers skyrocketed – costing drivers in Ontario more of their hard-earned money.

Only Doug Ford and the Ontario PC team have a plan to get it done by saying YES to keeping costs down and eliminating licence plate sticker fees.

Transcript:

As for scrapping licence plate stickers that takes over a billion dollars out of the economy which could go towards our schools and our hospitals. And most people I speak to had no problem paying $120 a year. Under the Ford government in this day and age, and I’m not blaming him for this, the price of a sticker, depends on the size of your vehicle, it can not buy a tank of gas. So, I don’t think it’s really good public policy in doing that.”
