On January 1st, life gets even harder under the Wynne Liberals

The following is a statement from Ontario PC Environment and Cap-and-Trade Critic Lisa Thompson on the Wynne Liberals’ cap-and-trade program going into effect on January 1st:

“A new year for many of us means new opportunities to achieve our goals or get a fresh start. For the Wynne Liberals, it means new opportunities to dip into Ontarians’ pockets.

“Ontario residents are begging for relief, but instead of looking for ways to make life more affordable, effective January 1st the Wynne Liberals will be implementing their cash-and-trade cash grab.

“The government’s plan will increase Ontario families’ home heating costs by as much as $13.54 month, and increase the price of gas at the pump by 4.3 cents a litre. Everything, from groceries to clothing, will become more expensive as a result of Wynne Liberal policies.

“Under cap-and-trade, the Wynne Liberals are expected to take almost $9 billion dollars to cover Liberal pet projects and whatever scandal they may dream up next, while doing next to nothing to reduce emissions here in Ontario.

“While it’s disappointing the Minister of the Environment dismissed the increased price of gasoline as “not a lot,” it’s  hardly surprising. It just goes to show how far out of touch with the public this government has truly become. This is a government that is willing to raise the cost of living at a time when so many Ontarians are seeing their hydro bills increase at an alarming rate, and having to make choices between heating their homes or putting food on the table.

“The Ontario PC Caucus continues to supports a practical, realistic, and revenue neutral plan to reduce carbon emissions, grow the economy, and put money back in the pockets of Ontarians.”
