QUEEN’S PARK – Today in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Members of Provincial Parliament held a moment of silence to honour those lost during the Battle of the Atlantic.
The Battle of the Atlantic is Canada’s longest military engagement of the Second World War, lasting from 1939-1945. During the Battle of the Atlantic, Canada lost thousands of courageous officers, sailors, and personnel of the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the Canadian Merchant Navy.
Also present were three veterans of the Battle of the Atlantic, naval veterans, and active members of the Royal Canadian Navy based out of HMCS York.
