Only Doug Ford and PCs Will Protect Ontario by Building GO 2.0

Transformational project will create new jobs and deliver high-quality regional transit across the Greater Golden Horseshoe

Brampton, February 6, 2025 — Today, Ontario PC candidate Prabmeet Sarkaria was in Brampton to announce that a re-elected PC government will support the construction of GO 2.0, the next generation of GO passenger train service in the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH), in partnership with the federal government, Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and Canadian National (CN). By building GO 2.0, a re-elected PC government will help deliver multiple new GO lines, enable expanded two-way, all-day service for Milton and Kitchener, build dozens of new stations and add convenient connections to existing transit systems across the Greater Golden Horseshoe, while also helping secure good-paying jobs for Ontario workers in the face of President Trump’s tariff threats.

“GO 2.0 is a transformational project that will ease gridlock and bring millions of people closer to convenient transit in some of our fastest-growing communities,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria. “With the threat of President Trump’s tariffs continuing to hurt investment and create uncertainty in our province, projects like these that will keep people working and support our economy are more important than ever. Only our Ontario PC team has the vision and drive to get this project done, creating new jobs and opportunities for Ontario workers and delivering the high-quality regional transit that the GGH needs.”

Working in partnership with the federal government, CPKC and CN to ensure continued and reliable freight rail access throughout the region, a re-elected PC government would seek to build a freight rail bypass along the Highway 407 corridor in Peel Region that would take freight rail around the City of Toronto to reduce congestion and free up existing rail capacity for passenger train service. When fully realized, GO 2.0 would support the creation of multiple new lines, including a line running through mid-town Toronto, a line from Bolton to Union Station via Woodbridge and Etobicoke, as well as extensions and improvements to existing lines, including Richmond Hill.

GO 2.0 is in addition to other historic investments in transit that the Ontario PC government is making, including the Ontario Line, the Hazel McCallion LRT, the Yonge North, Scarborough and Eglinton West extensions, and the Hamilton LRT. The Ontario PCs have also dramatically lowered costs for transit users in the GTA through One Fare, which saves transit users an average of $1,600 each year by removing double fares.

Only Doug Ford has a plan to protect Ontario:

  • Building Ontario’s economy by investing more than $200 billion in our plan to build roads, highways, transit and other infrastructure projects while investing over $2.5 billion to train more than one million people for better jobs and bigger paycheques in the skilled trades.
  • Protecting workers in the face of President Trump’s tariffs by doing whatever is necessary to protect people’s livelihoods, including by investing tens of billions of dollars to keep people working.
  • Keeping us competitive by fighting the job-killing Liberal carbon tax and urging the federal government to cut red tape and streamline approvals to get big things built.
  • Cleaning up our streets by protecting families and children by banning drug injection sites near schools and daycares and clearing out encampments from public parks with new investments in shelters.
  • Delivering better care, including by investing $1.8 billion more to connect everyone in Ontario to a family doctor and primary care.

Doug Ford will never stop working to protect Ontario.
