Ontario’s Liberal Government under another OPP Investigation

QUEEN’S PARK – Yesterday, it was revealed that the Ontario Provincial Police had launched their fifth investigation into the Liberal Government.

“This morning I was planning on asking the Liberals about health care cuts and autism funding cuts.  Instead, I’m forced to ask this Premier about an unprecedented fifth OPP investigation,” said Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown during Question Period.

On February 11, 2011, Trillium Wind Power Corp. was set to close the financing on their approved offshore wind project near Kingston. Only a half hour before the deal was set to close, the Liberals announced they would be cancelling the project via press release, without offering any explanation or rationale.

Following allegations raised by Trillium Power Energy Corp., the OPP is now investigating the alleged deletion of documents surrounding this cancellation.

This is another example of the Government’s scandal and mismanagement within the energy sector, burdening Ontario ratepayers and taxpayers.

“We know that the Liberals cancelled the gas plants because they were afraid of losing the 2011 election. The political decision cost a billion dollars. That billion dollars is being paid by every senior and family in Ontario on their skyrocketing hydro bills,” added Brown. “Now Ontario families and seniors may be on the hook for another $500-million that Trillium is suing for.”

“Why should families and seniors pay for yet another Liberal scandal?”
