Statement from Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown on MPP Lisa MacLeod

The following is a statement from Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown regarding MPP Lisa’s MacLeod announcing her experience with depression:

“As Ontario PC Leader I have continued to highlight the importance of ending the stigma which surrounds mental illness. Directly, or indirectly, mental illness and addictions affects one in five Ontarians. No one should suffer in silence.

Today MPP Lisa MacLeod, who recently celebrated 10 years as the Ontario PC MPP for Nepean-Carleton, shared her experience with depression. Speaking out is never easy. I commend MPP MacLeod for choosing to raise awareness about mental illness by sharing her personal struggle. Her strength, courage and resiliency, as witnessed today, is a yet another reason I am so proud to have MPP MacLeod as a member of our PC Caucus.

On behalf of the Ontario PC Caucus, I want to thank MPP MacLeod for reminding those who are suffering with mental illness that they are sick, not weak.”
