Brown to the Premier: Call a Public Inquiry into Political Fundraising
QUEEN’S PARK – In advance of today’s meeting with the Premier to discuss changes to political financing rules, Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown repeated his calls for a public inquiry into the Liberal Government’s fundraising practices.
Last Friday, Brown outlined his six-point plan to clean up political fundraising in the province of Ontario, which had included the aforementioned inquiry.
“If the Premier and her Ministers have nothing to hide, they wouldn’t run from a public inquiry,” Brown said on Friday. “Only a public inquiry – like we saw with the Gomery Commission – will ensure that the truth gets out there and it is the only way to restore trust.”
During today’s Question Period, the Premier continued to deny the need to shine a light on how her party raises money.
“If, as the Premier said today, her Government has nothing to hide, then she should not hesitate to accept my demand for a public inquiry,” Brown later added. “A full and comprehensive public inquiry is the only way to restore the public’s trust in this Government.
The Premier should do the right thing, cut her losses, and call the inquiry immediately.”
