Ontario PC Government Launches New Award to Honour Veterans

The Ontario PC government has launched the Ontario Veterans Award for Community Service Excellence (OVACSE)—a first-of-its-kind program recognizing veterans for their extraordinary volunteer contributions and continued service in civilian life.

More than just a symbol, the award celebrates veterans who go above and beyond to support their communities—whether by helping fellow veterans reintegrate into civilian life, assisting those dealing with physical or mental injuries, or leading broader community-building initiatives.

Each year, branches of The Royal Canadian Legion across Ontario will nominate one veteran for their exceptional community service. Local ceremonies will be held to present selected recipients with a certificate and commemorative lapel pin.

Ontario is the first province in Canada to create a formal award recognizing veterans’ excellence in community service. With more than 149,000 veterans in Ontario—and approximately 9,000 service members transitioning from the Canadian Armed Forces each year—this initiative highlights the ongoing impact of veterans beyond their military service.
