Wynne Liberal Budget 2016 Makes Life More Expensive for Average Families
QUEEN’S PARK – Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown used Question Period today to highlight some ways the Wynne Liberals Budget 2016 makes life more expensive for average Ontario families and seniors.
“This budget increases virtually every other government service fee, and at the same time it cuts popular middle class tax credits for education and active children,” said Leader Patrick Brown. “Life is just that much more expensive for the average family.”
Ontario families are already burdened with skyrocketing costs of living, including among the highest electricity prices in North America. Rather than making life more affordable for Ontarians, the Liberals are hiking fees and slashing important tax credits to pay for years of scandal, mismanagement and waste.
Budget 2016 cut the Tuition and Education Tax Credit, the Children’s Activity Tax Credit and the Home Renovation Tax Credit. The Budget also hikes the cost of obtaining driver’s licences, hunting licences, and fishing licences among other things.
“Heating your home? That costs more. Filling up the tank? That’s more expensive too. Does your child play hockey? The Liberals took that help away,” added Brown. “Getting a degree? The Premier took those tax credits away. Do you have to drive to work? Well those fees went up. Seniors needing medication? Sorry, the Liberals are making you pay more now too.”
“Seniors, families, business all got dinged. Name one person that isn’t paying more.”
