The Ontario PC government is investing more than $14 billion to build the new Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, a state-of-the-art, 2.8-million-square-foot facility that will triple the size of the current Mississauga Hospital and serve an estimated 2.2 million people across Peel Region and beyond.
This historic project will:
- Create 2,400 new health-care jobs and bring approximately 400 additional doctors to the community
- Deliver more hospital beds, more nurses, and more doctors in Mississauga
- Support good-paying construction jobs and long-term economic growth in the region
Once complete, the hospital will become:
- The largest teaching hospital in Canada
- Home to one of Ontario’s biggest emergency departments
The new facility will include:
- A 22-storey patient care tower with more than 950 beds, including 350 fully private rooms
- Nine new and 14 upgraded operating rooms to expand surgical capacity and reduce wait times across the region
- A new 24/7 emergency department, connecting more people to faster, life-saving care
- The Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children, a 200,000-square-foot space featuring one of Ontario’s largest NICUs
- Advanced diagnostic imaging, a modern clinical laboratory and pharmacy, and enhanced infection control measures
As part of our $200 billion “Build and Protect” plan, this project represents just one of more than 50 major hospital builds happening across the province. The Ontario PC government is also investing nearly $60 billion over the next 10 years to expand and modernize hospitals, delivering an estimated 3,000 new beds across Ontario.
We’re also supporting additional local investments, including the $1.3 billion Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre in Etobicoke, and more than $5 million in upgrades for Trillium Health Partners through the 2024–25 Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund.
Our PC government is delivering results. We’re protecting our health-care system, making it easier and faster to access care, and preparing for the future with bold, generational investments.
