SCOTT QUESTIONS WHY LIBERAL GOVERNMENT GIVES NO NEW FUNDING TO TACKLE HUMAN SEX TRAFFICKING

QUEEN’S PARK – During Question Period today, Ontario PC Critic for Women’s Issues, Laurie Scott, asked the Liberal Government to admit its mistake of omitting funding to tackle human trafficking in the 2016 Budget.

“The government says that human trafficking is a crisis and that it’s a priority,” said Scott. “But, there is no new funding for more dedicated officers to investigate human sex trafficking, no new funding for dedicated Crown Attorneys to prosecute this crime, and no new funding for victims’ services to assist survivors.”
Recently, Premier Kathleen Wynne admitted that the government may reconsider its decision to drive up medication costs for most seniors. Scott added that the government should admit that it was a mistake to leave out funding to address human trafficking and sexual exploitation, despite survivor and advocate calls for action.
“This crime is stealing the innocence of our young women,” concluded Scott. “Why is this government forcing the girls next door to continue to live in this nightmare?”
