Budget 2016 Must Include Plan for Debt and Deficit: Brown
QUEEN’S PARK – This morning in the Legislature, Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown asked the Premier to incorporate into Budget 2016 a credible plan to balance the budget. This is the third and final ask from the Ontario PC Caucus in a series of reasonable recommendations the people of Ontario deserve to see included.
“Every person in Ontario has a share of this government’s debt, they owe over $21,000 because of the Liberals,” said Leader Patrick Brown. “The interest payments on Ontario’s debt have become the third largest Ministry in this government. The government is spending 22 times more on interest than what they spend on the Ministry of Environment.”
Leader Patrick Brown highlighted how Liberal mismanagement has contributed to the soaring debt problem. The soon to be tabled budget will be the ninth straight budget with a multi-billion dollar deficit.
“If it wasn’t for Liberal scandal, waste and mismanagement this government wouldn’t have to sell Hydro One. They wouldn’t have to raise taxes on everything from beer to jet fuel,” added Brown. “They wouldn’t have to charge tolls for highways that Ontario families have already paid for.”
“Will the government include a credible plan to achieve a balanced budget, and take immediate action to pay down the nearly $300 billion dollar provincial debt?”
