STATEMENT FROM ONTARIO PC LEADER PATRICK BROWN ON PINK SHIRT DAY:
The following is a statement from Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown on Pink Shirt Day:
“Pink Shirt Day is an important initiative which serves as an occasion to highlight the seriousness of bullying in our schools and to emphasize the affects it has on victims.
Bullying is a complex issue, and it can take many different forms. In today’s digital era, bullying is no longer limited to our schools and their playgrounds; children are now subject to teasing and torment when they go home through social media and the internet.
The theme of this year’s Pink Shirt Day is ‘Kindness is one size fits all,’ reminding us that everyone can play a role in preventing bullying, and that small good-hearted gestures can go a long way. In fact, the whole pink shirt movement started from two Nova Scotia teenagers’ gesture in support of a peer at their school.
While there doesn’t exist a simple solution, education and awareness are integral steps in the right direction. I encourage everyone to wear pink today in support of the initiative and to join the conversation online.”
