Budget 2016 Must Include Plan to Properly Manage Health Care System
QUEEN’S PARK – This morning, Ontario PC Health Critic Jeff Yurek (Elgin-Middlesex-London) asked the Premier if she would support the Ontario PC Party’s recommendation to include in the provincial budget a plan to properly manage Ontario’s health care system.
“Every day, the real cost of this Liberal Government’s scandals, waste and mismanagement is being felt by Ontario’s families and seniors,” stated Yurek. “These cuts mean that patients are not receiving the quality health care services they deserve.”
At the expense of Ontario’s patients, the Wynne Liberals have cut $54 million of the federal Canada Health Transfer from Ontario’s 2015 health care budget, $815 million from physician services, $50 million from physiotherapy services for seniors. and 50 medical residency positions throughout the province. This is in addition to Ontario’s hospitals facing four years of frozen budgets.
“The end result is the cancellation of surgeries throughout Ontario, cuts in nursing positions, longer wait times in emergency rooms and very limited access to palliative care,” added Yurek. “Each cut translates into reduced care for Ontario patients.”
Last week the Ontario PC Caucus has presented three recommendations they feel the people of Ontario deserve to see represented in the Liberal Government’s Budget. The second recommendation asked the government to develop a plan to properly manage Ontario’s health care system, including reversing the current and planned cuts to doctors, nurses and hospitals.
“When will it stop? Why won’t this government put patients first? Stop and reverse the cuts,” concluded Yurek.
