Building a Stronger, More Self-Reliant Canada with a New East-West Energy Corridor

Our PC government is taking bold action to protect Canadian workers, strengthen our economy, and achieve energy security in the face of tariffs and global uncertainty.

Ontario, alongside Alberta and Saskatchewan, is moving forward with plans to create a Canadian energy and economic corridor; a nation-building project that will connect Western Canadian oil and gas to refineries in Southern Ontario and tidewater ports, including a potential deep-sea port on the coast of James Bay.

These new Alberta-to-Ontario pipelines, built entirely within Canada with Canadian steel, will secure reliable access to Canadian energy for our homes and businesses while opening new markets for our resources. This means thousands of good-paying jobs across the country, new opportunities for Ontario’s refining sector, and a stronger, more resilient economy.

The events of recent months have made one thing clear, Canada can no longer rely on foreign-controlled pipelines that can be shut down at a moment’s notice. By building pipelines within our borders, we’ll reduce our dependence on the United States, protect our economy, and ensure our workers and businesses have a stable, affordable supply of energy.

Pipelines are the safest and most cost-effective way to move fuel. This project will also explore the creation of a Canadian Strategic Petroleum Reserve to guard against supply disruptions, along with opportunities for Indigenous equity participation; ensuring this corridor delivers long-term benefits for communities across the country.

This feasibility study will examine not only new pipelines and port access, but also potential refinery expansion, increased export capacity, and complementary infrastructure such as all-season roads to the Ring of Fire, grid upgrades, and broadband expansion.

By working together, Ontario, Alberta, and Saskatchewan are seizing a generational opportunity to bring sustainable prosperity to our northern communities, strengthen our economy, and secure our position as a global energy leader.

Our message is clear: Canada’s energy future must be built by Canadians, for Canadians. And, under the leadership of Premier Doug Ford, Ontario is proud to be leading the way.
