Patrick Brown Calls on the Premier to Stand Up for First Responders
QUEEN’S PARK – Today during Question Period, Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown repeated his calls on the Premier to fast-track the passage of Bill 2, and offer up much needed supports for first responders suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The Private Member’s Bill was originally introduced by NDP MPP Cheri DiNovo, and has been log jammed in committee since 2014 while many Ontario first responders silently suffer from PTSD.
“It’s now been 155 days since I asked this government to act on Bill 2. In those 155 days, I have heard from countless firefighters, police officers and paramedics who need this government’s help,” said Brown. “That’s 155 days that this government has turned its back on first responders.”
Our province’s first responders are twice more likely to suffer from PTSD than anybody else. In the first month and a half of 2016, Canada has already lost 10 first responders to PTSD.
“Our first responders play a crucial role in protecting the public’s safety and well-being,” concluded Brown. “Why won’t this government fast-track Bill 2 and get our first responders the help they deserve?”
