Statement from Ontario PC MPP Lisa Thompson on Social Housing Retrofits

The following is a statement from PC Environment and Cap-and-Trade Critic Lisa Thompson on the Government’s Green Investment Fund initiatives announced today:
“Climate change is a serious challenge that requires a credible plan that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions while protecting taxpayers and our economy.
“Part of that plan must include efforts to make homes and buildings more energy efficient to effectively address climate change and lower electricity costs for Ontarians.

“That plan should not be based on a spending spree with cash the government doesn’t have from a cap-and-trade scheme that does not yet exist.
“The Liberals continue to commit non-existent cap-and-trade revenue to new projects as a way to sell their budget while deliberately withholding details on the new costs this scheme will create for Ontario taxpayers and businesses.
“Each and every taxpayer in this province has the right to see detailed estimates from Premier Kathleen Wynne on how much her cap-and-trade scheme will increase the costs of electricity, gas and groceries in Ontario.”
