Statement from Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown on the Death of Constable Darius Garda
“The Ontario PC Party is shocked and saddened to hear the news of the passing of Toronto police officer Constable Darius Garda. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues during this very difficult time. Constable Darius Garda suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Earlier this week, the Ontario PC Party commended the Liberal Government’s announcement that they will introduce initiatives that help prevent and mitigate the risk of PTSD among first responders.
Unfortunately, it’s not enough. It’s time for the government to fast track MPP Cheri DiNovo’s Bill 2, An Act to amend the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. This bill would ensure that police officers, such as Constable Darius Garda, are able to receive timely and appropriate care for the serious and debilitating challenges of PTSD.”
