The Ontario PC government is taking decisive action to protect workers and families in the face of U.S. tariffs and global economic uncertainty. Premier Doug Ford announced a $70 million investment to help workers retrain, upskill, and secure good-paying jobs so they can continue to build a stronger Ontario.
Ontario has the best workers in the world. When their livelihoods are threatened by decisions made in Washington, our PC government is standing up for them. Through this new investment, we are delivering:
- $20 million for new Protect Ontario Workers Employment Response (POWER) Centres that will provide rapid training, job search support, and proactive assistance for workers at risk of layoffs.
- $50 million for Better Jobs Ontario (BJO) to expand access to training and reskilling programs, providing up to $35,000 to help workers cover tuition, transportation, and child care while preparing for in-demand careers.
These programs will help workers retrain quickly and return to the workforce with bigger paycheques, giving families peace of mind and strengthening Ontario’s economy.
Since 2021, nearly 16,000 job seekers have received retraining through Better Jobs Ontario, and our Action Centres have helped nearly 15,000 workers. With these new investments, our government is expanding and enhancing those supports to help even more Ontarians.
This is part of our PC government’s plan to protect workers, keep costs down, and build Ontario’s future by making our province the most competitive jurisdiction in the G7.
