Cuts to Whitby-Oshawa Doctors Hurt Patients Most
WHITBY – Today Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown rallied alongside Ontario doctors who were expressing their ongoing frustration with the Liberal Government’s cuts to physician services. Joining Brown was Lorne Coe, the Ontario PC candidate in the Whitby-Oshawa by-election, as well as Julia Munro, MPP for York-Simcoe.
“The Ontario PC Party stands unequivocally with Ontario’s physicians on the Liberal’s attack against health care,” said Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown to the crowd of doctors. “I bring this up again and again in the Legislature and no matter how many times Kathleen Wynne says that there are no cuts to health care in Ontario, patients and doctors across this province know that to be false.”
Brown was referencing the Wynne Liberal’s $815 million cut in physician services last year. The Liberal Government’s cuts come at a time when many communities across Ontario struggle with physician shortages, and a reported 800,000 people in Ontario are without a family doctor. The demand for medical care only continues to grow, with 140,000 new patients entering the system each year.
“As a direct result of their economic mismanagement, this government has eroded our already fragile health care system with cut after cut,” said MPP Julia Munro (York-Simcoe), at a rally in Whitby today with Concerned Ontario Doctors. “To put it plain and simple, these cuts impact wait times. They impact patients. They impact our families.”
On Friday evening, Ontario PC Candidate for Whitby-Oshawa, Lorne Coe, met with local doctors and listened to their concerns about the government’s unilateral cuts to physician services.
“Physicians are a critical part of our health care system, and they are often the first touchpoint for patients needing care,” stated Coe. “These cuts prevent hard-working doctors from providing their patients with the quality care they need. This is unacceptable. Our patients deserve better, and our hard-working doctors deserve better.
Coe concluded, “The Ontario PC Party is committed to working with Ontario’s physicians and other health care providers to ensure a health care system that is sustainable and puts patients first.”
