LIBERALS FAILING TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE HEALTH CARE TO ONTARIANS
QUEEN’S PARK – Today, information obtained by the media revealed that emergency departments across greater Toronto are failing to meet acceptable wait times to see patients.
“This is an indictment on the Liberal Government for its lack of action on a report from the Auditor General five years ago highlighting the issue of wait times. This failure highlights a lack of oversight and accountability to the people of Ontario in delivering timely quality access to health care,” stated Ontario PC Health Critic Jeff Yurek (Elgin-Middlesex-London).
The Auditor General had previously reported that wait times in emergency departments in two Toronto-area hospitals were six hours instead of the recommended 15 to 30 minute wait.
“The Liberal Government needs to look beyond the hospitals in order to deal with emergency room backlogs,” added Yurek. “Family physicians and walk in clinics can be utilized to treat the non-urgent cases and free up time in our emergency departments. However due to the Liberal Government’s cut of $815 million to physician services, we have seen many walk-in clinics close forcing patients to rely on emergency departments.”
“Ontario has some of the best doctors, nurses and frontline caregivers who work hard every day for their patients. Yet no one in the government seems to be looking after the health of Ontarians. The Wynne Liberals are failing in their approach that puts patients first,” concluded MPP Jeff Yurek.
