Ontario PCs Expanding Primary Care to 500,000 More People

The Ontario PC government is taking another bold step to protect our health-care system and ensure every person in our province can connect to a family doctor or primary care team.

Today, our government announced the next call for proposals to create and expand approximately 75 primary care teams that will connect 500,000 more people to care. This over $250 million investment is part of our $2.1 billion Primary Care Action Plan, a plan that will connect two million more people to primary care by 2029.

Thanks to record investments like this, Ontario continues to lead the country in expanding access to care. Just this past June, our government invested $235 million to fund over 130 new and expanded primary care teams, connecting more than 300,000 people. Some of those teams are already welcoming new patients.

With this next round of funding, communities across Ontario can apply to add even more teams to ensure local families can find the care they need, when and where they need it. Priority will be given to individuals on the Health Care Connect waitlist, which has already been reduced by over 42 per cent since the start of 2025.

Since 2018, Ontario has added nearly 20,000 new physicians, including a 14 per cent increase in family doctors. We’ve also made it easier for U.S.-licensed nurses and board-certified doctors to practise in Ontario; with nearly 1,400 nurses and more than 260 doctors choosing to come here this year alone.

Only Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs have a plan to connect everyone in Ontario to primary care by 2029. We’re making the investments needed to protect our health-care system and ensure that families across our province get the care they deserve, closer to home.
