Our PC government is once again delivering on our plan to protect Ontario by expanding the Basic Constable Training (BCT) program to help keep our streets and communities safe.
For the first time, the Ontario Police College will offer BCT at two sites — the College in Aylmer and at the DEV Hotel and Conference Centre in Cornwall. This expansion means an additional 121 recruits will be trained this fall, bringing the total intake to 641 recruits across both sites.
In 2023, our government eliminated the tuition fee for the BCT program, making it more accessible for Ontarians who want to serve their communities. The program covers a wide range of critical training, including:
- Federal, provincial and traffic law
- Human rights, diversity and professional practice
- Leadership and ethics
- Mental health for first responders and for people in crisis
- De-escalation tactics
- Firearms, officer safety and fitness for duty
Under the leadership of Premier Ford, we are working every day to protect Ontario, and that includes ensuring police services have the officers they need to keep families and communities safe.
