Ontario’s PC government is securing Ontario’s energy future and protecting thousands of good-paying jobs by giving the green light to refurbish four reactors at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.
After the previous Liberal government planned to shut Pickering down and abandon thousands of workers, our government is doubling down on Canadian technology, Canadian workers and the Canadian supply chain, delivering up to 38 more years of clean, reliable and affordable nuclear power for Ontario families and businesses.
This historic project will:
- Create nearly 37,000 jobs and grow Canada’s GDP by $41.6 billion
- Deliver 2,200 MW of clean power (enough electricity for 2.2 million homes)
- Keep 90% of project spending in Canada, strengthening Ontario’s world-class nuclear sector
- Secure long-term production of Cobalt-60, a life-saving medical isotope used worldwide
- Invest over $100 million with Indigenous-owned companies to support First Nations economic participation
Under Premier Ford’s leadership, Ontario is building a stronger, more resilient and self-reliant energy system, one that supports record population growth, fuels new home construction, drives manufacturing expansion, and protects workers from global instability and U.S. tariffs.
