Statement from Ontario PC Candidate Lorne Coe on the Ontario-Whitby MOU

The following is a statement from Lorne Coe, Ontario PC Candidate for Whitby-Oshawa, on the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Ontario and the Town of Whitby:

“I am pleased that Ontario and the Town of Whitby have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to help address traffic issues in  downtown Brooklin.  It has been Council’s desire for a number of years by the municipality to gain care and control of Baldwin Street through the village.

As a municipal and Regional Councillor, I am proud to have been an advocate on this issue for several years.  This agreement is a key step in assisting Council in better serving the local needs and desires of the municipality, as well as to achieve a safe, liveable and functional downtown Brooklin.  It is important to recognize that gaining ownership of Baldwin Street to achieve Council’s goal is a process that requires a number of stages and approvals and this MOU is an important first step forward in this process.

However, it is unfortunate that the Town of Whitby only receives attention and support from the Liberal Government when a by-election in the riding of Whitby-Oshawa is anticipated to be called shortly. “
