Wynne Liberals Lack Credible Plan to Address Climate Change

QUEEN’S PARK – This morning in the Legislature, Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown criticized the Premier for the government’s lack of a plan to address climate change.

“The Premier loves to talk about the environment and fighting climate change,” stated Leader Patrick Brown.  “I understand there is a need to protect the environment, but this Premier’s idea of fighting climate change is photo-op environmentalism and press release politics.”

The government’s recent cap-and-trade announcements have provided little to no details on the government’s plan, and the Premier’s most significant announcement from Paris was about Manitoba’s plan, not Ontario’s.

“I’ve asked for details about this government’s climate change plan, yet they won’t give me any,” added Leader Patrick Brown. “The Premier can’t give a single example of what she has done as Premier that wasn’t a press release or photo-op to help reduce emissions.”

The Environmental Commissioner of Ontario’s 2015 report confirmed that Ontario is unlikely to hit its 2020 greenhouse gas targets. The Liberal’s empty promises and lack of leadership are evident once again.

“It’s awfully easy to stage photo-ops and claim the Wynne Liberals will fight climate change,” Leader Patrick Brown continued.  “It’s easy to set GHG reductions for 2030 and 2050, but it takes work to actually make a difference now.  What has the Premier done to fight climate change in Ontario?”
