Liberals Dole out $1.4 Billion with no Transparency
QUEEN’S PARK – Today, Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown lambasted the Liberal Government for handing out $1.4 billion in Economic Development grants without a transparent and open application process.
“80 per cent of the money went to companies that either didn’t apply or were told that their application was simply a formality,” said Leader Patrick Brown. “That’s $1.1 billion handed out to Liberal friends.”
Last week’s Auditor General Report also found that the Liberal Government never studied the economic impact of their grants, and were unable to prove whether or not they helped create a single job or a single dollar of return on their investments.
“Now we find out, that after handing out billions of dollars in the name of economic development, this government can’t prove they’ve helped create a single job,” added Brown. “All the Minister does is write a cheque, stage a photo-op and then forgets the company exists until the next time he needs to send a press release.”
“Why can’t the Liberals prove one job was ever created? Was it because these cheques were just written to their party friends?”
