The Ontario PC government is taking action to protect fans and make live events more affordable by cracking down on unfair ticket resale practices.
For too long, professional resellers have driven up prices — buying up tickets and reselling them at inflated costs, putting concerts, sporting events and cultural experiences out of reach for many Ontario families.
Our government is taking action to fix that.
We are proposing changes to the Ticket Sales Act, 2017 that would cap ticket resale prices at the original all-in purchase cost, including fees and taxes. If passed, tickets could no longer be resold for a profit, helping ensure more Ontarians have a fair opportunity to attend the events they love.
These changes would apply to all resellers and platforms, creating a more transparent and level playing field for fans.
We are also strengthening protections to crack down on fake tickets and improve consumer confidence, so buyers know they are getting exactly what they paid for.
These measures are about fairness, transparency and affordability — and making sure fans come first.
By putting an end to excessive markups, we are helping more families and fans enjoy Ontario’s vibrant live event scene without being taken advantage of.
This is another step in our plan to protect Ontario and make life more affordable for people across the province.
