As Ontario continues to face economic uncertainty and the threat of U.S. tariffs, Doug Ford and our Ontario PC team are taking action to protect workers, support businesses and build a stronger, more competitive and self-reliant economy.
The 2026 Fall Economic Statement, A Plan to Protect Ontario, outlines the next steps in our plan to protect good-paying jobs, strengthen key industries, keep costs down for families and secure Ontario’s economic future.
While U.S. tariffs and global economic instability continue to put pressure on workers and businesses, our we’re focused on what matters most: protecting jobs, attracting new investment, building critical infrastructure and making life more affordable for families across our province.
Highlights of our plan include:
- Protecting Ontario jobs and industries: Delivering a new $8.7 billion Canada-Ontario action plan to strengthen our steel, automotive and critical minerals sectors, protect workers impacted by U.S. tariffs and create new opportunities in advanced manufacturing, defence and energy.
- Attracting investment and creating jobs: Introducing the Ontario Competitiveness Tax Cut, which would provide $8 billion in provincial tax relief, helping attract at least $11 billion in new investment and create 30,000 jobs.
- Standing up for workers and businesses: Building on nearly $30 billion in tariff relief and supports announced since April 2025 to help businesses stay open, protect jobs and strengthen made-in-Ontario supply chains.
- Cutting red tape: Making it faster and easier to do business in Ontario by streamlining permits, reducing unnecessary regulations and eliminating nearly 220,000 days in permit processing times.
- Building Ontario’s future: Moving forward with our $210 billion capital plan to build the highways, hospitals, transit, schools and other critical infrastructure our growing province needs.
- Keeping costs down for families: Providing more than $12.5 billion in supports in 2026–27 to help families and individuals with the costs of housing, energy, transportation, child care and other everyday expenses.
- Respecting taxpayers: Maintaining a responsible fiscal plan that protects essential public services, improves government efficiency and charts a path to a balanced budget by 2029–30.
Ontario PC government is also strengthening support for research and innovation, backing our forestry sector and creating the conditions for businesses to invest, expand and hire more workers right here at home.
At a time when Ontario faces unprecedented economic challenges, we cannot afford to stand still. We need to keep building, keep investing and keep fighting for Ontario workers and families.
Under the leadership of Doug Ford, our Ontario PC team is doing exactly that.
We have a plan to protect Ontario. A plan to protect jobs, strengthen our economy and build a more prosperous future for everyone who calls our province home.
