Wynne Liberals cleaning up mess they created in ticket industry

TORONTO – With today’s ticket sales announcement, the Wynne Liberals are yet again patting themselves on the back for cleaning up a mess they created, said Ontario PC MPP Todd Smith.

On July 1, 2015 the Wynne Liberals changed regulations to the Ticket Speculation Act allowing ticket resellers to make a profit by gouging music fans. As a result, many fans are either unable to see their favourite acts or forced to pay well-above face-value, most famously occurring during The Tragically Hip’s final tour last summer.

“These inexplicable changes benefited massive companies like Ticketmaster and Live Nation, but put Ontario sports and music fans at a serious disadvantage,” said Smith. “In 2016, I asked the Wynne Liberals why they made these changes, and I’m still waiting for a good answer.”

The Ontario Liberal Party, which has long been accused of exchanging access for donations, accepted a total of $52,700 from Ticketmaster and Live Nation between 2012 and 2015.

“The Wynne Liberals cozied up to their corporate donors before, and given the chance I’m sure they’ll figure out how to do it again,” added Smith. “The Ontario PCs have always called for changes that are in the best interests of Ontarians.”
