Statement from Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown on the nomination of Toby Barrett
“I congratulate Toby on his nomination as the Ontario PC candidate for Haldimand-Norfolk.
“Since 1995 Toby has been a stalwart in his community, proving himself to be a hardworking and effective advocate who is always looking out for the best interests of the communities he represents. A life-long resident of Haldimand-Norfolk with an incredible love for the region, I know Toby will continue to be a passionate advocate for his constituents.
“Aside from his tireless work representing his constituency, Toby has also taken on a number of important Legislative roles, including his current position as our PC Caucus Chair. He also serves as the Ontario PC Caucus’ critic for Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, where he is a strong and effective voice for rural Ontario. Toby has taken the Liberal government to task for their $28 million cut to the agriculture budget, and has stood up against the Wynne Liberals’ needlessly restrictive neonicotinoid ban. In 2015, Toby reached across the aisle to receive all-party support for his Private Member’s Bill to combat vector-borne diseases, so farmers and others living in rural Ontario can receive more protection from pests encountered in their work.
“After 13 years in power, life is harder under the Liberals. Ontarians are faced with skyrocketing hydro rates, cut after cut to health care services, and Liberal scandal, waste and mismanagement is making life increasingly unaffordable. It’s time for a change in Ontario.
“I look forward to continue working alongside Toby to spread the Ontario PC Party’s message of a stronger and more prosperous province.”
