Preparing People for In-Demand Jobs

Investing in new and expanded rapid training programs

We know that Ontario workers will change careers and professions multiple times over the course of their lives.  That’s why our PC government is providing $15 million to accelerate the development of rapid training programs and help people retrain and upgrade their skills to succeed in their current careers or find new employment.

In partnership with industry, employers and other organizations, the province is inviting postsecondary institutions to design more micro-credentials that will prepare Ontarians for the in-demand jobs of today and tomorrow.

Additional incentives will be available for postsecondary institutions with the best proposals in their provincial regions. Institutions that demonstrate success in enhancing community partnerships, driving economic recovery and increasing job growth will be eligible for an award of up to $1 million.

Micro-credentials are complementary to traditional learning and provide training in specific skillsets – offering a faster pathway to employment compared to certificate, diploma or degree programs.

As announced in the 2020 Ontario Budget, Ontario’s Action Plan: Protect, Support, Recover, Ontario is investing $59.5 million over the next three years to further establish micro-credentials as a key component of Ontario’s internationally recognized postsecondary sector.
