Scarborough Subway Extension Breaks Ground

For over 30 years, the hard-working people and families of Scarborough have waited for better transit. Since day one, the PC government has never wavered from its promise to build the Scarborough Subway Extension.

Previous Del-Duca Wynne governments did not support transit in Scarborough.

  • 2013 – Steven Del Duca and Mitzie Hunter voted against a motion for the Scarborough Subway Extension
  • 2019 – the Ontario Liberals voted against the Ontario Budget 2019 referencing the PC government’s commitment to extending Scarborough Subway
  • 2020 – the Ontario Liberals and NDP voted against the Building Transit Faster Act, 2020, committing to extend the Scarborough Subway

As of right now, shovels are in the ground.

This project is estimated to support as many as 3,000 jobs annually during construction and unlock better access to workplaces, schools and other key destinations throughout the city for Scarborough residents.

As part of Ontario’s $28.5 billion subway expansion program, the largest in Canadian history, the Scarborough Subway Extension will help transform the Greater Toronto Area’s transit network into the modern, connected system that the region deserves.

This ground-breaking and each project milestone for Ontario’s four priority transit projects demonstrate our government’s unwavering commitment to build modern, reliable and efficient rapid transit to make life easier and more affordable for Ontarians.
