Statement on the Passing of the Honourable Bill Davis

The Ontario PC Party extends our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family and friends of former leader of the Ontario PC Party, the Honourable William Grenville Davis.

Mr. Davis became Premier of Ontario in 1971 at age 41, and went on to lead the Progressive Conservative Party during a 42-year-long dynasty, winning four straight elections.  

Under his leadership, Davis played a key role in the patriation of Canada’s Constitution and the establishment of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and oversaw the creation of Ontario’s college system.

Mr. Davis will be remembered as one of Ontario’s greatest Premiers and leaders of our progressive conservative movement. His leadership and vision improved the lives of Ontarians, and his legacy will live on forever.
