Marc Despatie Nominated as the 2022 Ontario PC Party Candidate for Sudbury

SUDBURY – The Ontario PC Party is pleased to announce that Marc Despatie has been nominated as our candidate for the riding of Sudbury for the 2022 provincial election.

Marc Despatie has a long track record in public affairs, including serving as Director of Communications, Strategic Planning and Government Relations at Collège Boréal, Commissioner’s Representative (Ontario) at the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages of Canada, and in various other roles in provincial government.

“I am proud to call Sudbury home and have dedicated many years as a community advocate for Franco-Ontarians,” said Marc Despatie. “I’m honoured to join Doug Ford’s team as your new PC Candidate. Doug Ford is the right leader Ontario needs to lead us through the pandemic and build a better future for Ontario.”

Marc has taught at all levels and been a freelance journalist for the Sudbury Star and Le Gaboteur in Newfoundland. Fluent in both English and French, he holds a Masters in Planning from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Laurentian University.

Originally from Hanmer, Marc has also lived in Toronto, St. John’s and Mainland (NL), Ottawa and Sudbury. He has been a trustee for the Conseil scolaire francophone provincial de Terre-Neuve et Labrador, a director on the Board of Directors of the Muséoparc de Vanier Museopark in Ottawa, and held various positions on the Board and committees at the East York Curling Club in Toronto, among many others. He is currently the Treasurer of the Carrefour francophone de Sudbury and is the Vice-President of the Société historique du Nouvel-Ontario. Marc has also contributed to two books on the history of Franco-Ontarian cultural institutions in Sudbury, the Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario (TNO) and the Centre des jeunes/Carrefour francophone.

A debater, public speaker and community radio host with the former CFLR (now CFLU) while in high school and university, Marc now offers workshops in Mindfulness and Mindfulness Meditation and gives historical tours of Sudbury in his spare time. He has also participated in the Festival Les vieux m’ont conté as a storyteller in 2019 and 2021 and acted in the 2020 edition of the TNO’s community production, Gym Tonic.

“Having a candidate like Marc, with his education background and community involvement on Doug Ford’s team, is a true testament to the changing political climate in Sudbury,” said Fred Slade, President of the Sudbury PC Riding Association. “Marc is prepared to hit the ground running for the next election.”
