Expanding Mental Health Supports for OPP

$12.5 million investment will enhance mental health services available to the OPP to help them cope with occupational stress while continuing to maintain public safety

Every day, Ontario’s police officers put their lives on the line to protect us, and our families.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a reminder of how much we rely on frontlines workers, and why we need to look after their mental health and well-being.

That is why, as part of our PC government’s 2021 Budget, we are investing $12.5 million over three years to enhance the mental health services available to the OPP to help them cope with occupational stress while continuing to maintain public safety. The funding will support the hiring of approximately 20 additional mental-health support staff to enhance the OPP’s Healthy Workplace initiative.

This new initiative is part of the continued steps our government is taking to improve the OPP’s workplace culture and support members who go above and beyond to serve and protect our communities.

The OPP’s Healthy Workplace program is available to all OPP members (uniformed and civilians), retired members as well as family members.

Frontline police officers are leaders in their communities, and our government is determined to continue providing them with the supports, resources and tools they need to do their jobs.
