Brampton Civic Hospital Overcrowded Because of Liberal Mismanagement
QUEEN’S PARK – Last weekend, Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown toured the Brampton Civic Hospital and delivered chocolate bars to the nursing staff in appreciation of all of their hard work. Brown used today’s Question Period to highlight some of the alarming and concerning things he saw on the tour, and to ask the Liberal Government about their cuts to frontline health care.
“I met with amazing nurses and staff when I toured Brampton Civic Hospital this past weekend. I got to see some of the remarkable work they do as I toured the facility,” said Brown. “But as I walked the halls, something stood out to me. I was shocked when I counted 33 beds in the hallways of the hospital.”
Brampton Civic Hospital sees over 140,000 ER visits per year, despite the fact it was only built for a capacity of 90,000 ER visits per year. Hospitals across the province are experiencing rampant overcrowding while the Liberal Government continues to tighten hospital budgets. Ontario hospitals have faced nine consecutive years of hospital funding cuts and four years of frozen budgets under this Liberal Government.
“Beds in hospital hallways should never be the norm in Ontario. The patients of Brampton and Peel region deserve more from their government,” concluded Brown. “Will this government commit to giving Brampton Civic Hospital the resources they need? Will they promise no other patients will have to wait on a stretcher in a hallway?”
